^This. That said, in the UK, it’s a national holiday. It’s only become what it is because of ‘V for Vendetta’, and ‘V’ actually IS an anarchist revolutionary. Really, Nat Turner needs a good fuckin’ film. Someone get it done. :D

I keep seeing smart arses pointing out that Guy Fawkes wanted to start a “Catholic Theocracy”, to the point I feel the need to mention the fact that he didn’t.

He wanted to reinstall a Catholic monarch, not the same thing as a theocracy. In fact, the king he was trying to depose, James I, would me more aptly described as theocratic since he was the main propagator of the “divine right of kings” theory.

It was James the first who initiated the British colonisation of the Americas. He also initiated the protestant plantation in Ulster. He also initiated widespread witch hunts, altering his version of the bible to include reference to witches. James I used to over see the torture of women deemed to be witches personally. James was the first to make the eradication of Gaelic language and culture from the Highlands official British policy.

I for one wish Guy Fawkes had blown him to pieces.
